Pulling off a surprise proposal video is a very tricky task. As a photographer / videographer, we arent professional actors. This job involved our videographer, Ryan to step out of his comfort zone and find a creative way to capture Rohit’s proposal to Maithili. He met up with the groom to be, Rohit, earlier during the day before the safari along with the bride to be, Maithili’s, sister Gayatri and her husband Vallabh. The whole plan was that the 4 will go on a desert safari in the Dubai desert and Vallabh will tell a small story of 2 people who were born in the same hospital in the same town of Chandigarh, just a year apart from one another. And at around Sunset, Rohit would pop the question. Coming to the filming aspect of it, Ryan had to disguise himself as a videographer working for the tourism company that organized the tour. He managed to convince Maithili that he’s creating an advertisement for the company that requires him to capture the group enjoying their experience. The plan was set in motion after he managed to have her sign a waiver that allowed us to record them. The tour started around 2 pm and everything was going according to plan, everyone was having a blast in the dunes. Around sunset time, Vallabh began to tell his story during their pitstop on one of the dunes. This was Rohit’s cue and as Maithili was looking away, he went down on one knee with a ring in his hand and waited for her to turn around. The moment she did, it was a moment of pure love and passion as she came down in tears. She said “Yes!”. The cameras were rolling, every moment was captured and it was just beautiful. Us photographers and videographers live to capture those candid emotional moments. Even after he proposed to her, Maithili still had no clue that Ryan was hired to record the whole thing. Eventually everyone told her and we went off to enjoy the rest of the safari. Nothing was scripted, we just had to improvise and wing it. You can check out the full proposal video below:
